Highliner Charters Techniques & Preparation
Techniques and Preparation PDF Print E-mail

My primary technique for Salmon fishing is trolling with herring.   In the summer, I will use mixture of hoochies, spoons, and herring.  However, some folks prefer the hands on feel and action of jigging for salmon instead of trolling.  I can accommodate if conditions are right.

For bottom fish I primarily jig with herring, squid, or soft plastics with lead jig heads. Occasionally I will anchor up and put the rods on the down riggers when fishing for halibut.

In my lifetime of being a fishing fanatic from 5 years old, I have come up with some basic fundamentals that have served me well, and can be summed up in the term...FISH SMART:

1. Use only premium fishing gear and equipment.  This will help bring premium fish in both size and numbers.

2. Use all your resources available to analyze and decipher conditions.

3. Exercise true patients under pressure and make sound decisions on whether to stay or go.
